Blouke Carus helped form the Editorial Advisory Board for Cricket from leaders in children's literature based on his experience with the textbook division of Open Court Publishing Company.

Members of the board included acclaimed authors Lloyd Alexander, Eleanor Cameron, and Isaac Bashevis Singer; Horn Book Magazine editor Paul Heins; Puffin Books founder Kaye Webb; librarian and author Virginia Haviland, founder of the Center for Children's Literature at the Library of Congress; children’s literature critic Sheila Egoff; and Walter Scherf, director of the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany.
