Music Producer's Introduction
Hello, my name is Jenny Pape, Associate Professor of Practice at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and I’m the producer for the music album We Are For Egypt.
As a singer/songwriter based out of Southern Illinois, my work has centered on shining a spotlight on the regional culture through celebrating our folklore, traditions, and the human experience, specific to living in this beautiful and often overlooked rural area.
This album contains five traditional songs of Southern Illinois and five newly commissioned pieces by current songwriters in the area. Narrowing it down to only a handful of people was difficult in an area that is rich in songwriters, but I believe we represented some important perspectives. These are stories about rebellions, unity, love, natural disasters, immigrating to new lands, pirates and even hero dogs. They are songs expressed through Blues, folk, country, and latin-country blends, and sung in French, Spanish, and English. This is one chapter in a larger story of who we are as Southern Illinoisans. I hope you enjoy the songs of We Are For Egypt.
