Description
Lithographic illustration of the Jackson County “County Farm” as published in 1878. The image depicts the main institutional residence and an adjacent building within a fenced agricultural landscape. Livestock and human figures are shown in the foreground, emphasizing the farm-based labor model central to nineteenth-century poor farms. The curved road labeled “County Farm” visually situates the institution within the rural landscape of Jackson County. The illustration appeared on page 20 of History of Jackson County, Illinois (1878).
