Cast in 1741 by Louis XV of France as a gift to the Catholic Church of the Illinois Country, the Liberty Bell of the West was rung in Kaskaskia, Illinois, on July 4, 1778, to celebrate its liberation from the British by American Colonel George Rogers Clark.
