Mizuno Toshikata (1866-1925) worked both with traditional ukiyo-e printing and Western style painting. He studied with Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Kinisawa Shimburo, in ukiyo-e and Western styles respectively. He started in 1877, working for newspapers and other publications. However, when the Sino-Japanese war came along, he started making war prints, and became very well known for this. His war prints were all in triptych form and are considered to be important historical documants, because of their accuracy to specific events that happened during the war.
